18 May Greece Yoga Retreat
Every so often, I hit a point in life when I realize it’s time to slow down completely, regroup, and recharge. After an unsuccessful IVF round, I found myself at one of those pivotal moments. For me, yoga and wellness retreats are always the remedy.
While researching destinations, I came across a new company called Nomadikas, and their inaugural retreat held on the small Greek island of Zakynthos—a sparkling blue jewel in the Ionian Sea. I was instantly drawn to their vision: a luxury wellness retreat in a lesser- known destination, offering thoughtfully curated experiences and incredible fresh-to-table meals.
Before I knew it, a close friend (also ready for a reset) and I had booked our spots—and the countdown was on.
Getting There
Zakynthos is easily accessible with direct flights from Athens and London (and likely other major European hubs). These two routes worked best for our travel dates, making the journey relatively smooth.
The Retreat Experience
The Nomadikas retreat was hosted at a stunning trio of villas tucked high in the mountains overlooking the sea. The accommodations were available in single or double occupancy, and while some guests roomed with newfound friends, others opted for privacy. Our room, though cozy, was perfect—complete with a private terrace and outdoor shower.
Of the 12 guests attending (not including instructors, chef, and support team), some arrived solo while others came with a friend. We met incredible people from Germany, Paris, London, and the Netherlands—creating a fun, global group dynamic.
The retreat package included:
- Lodging and villa amenities
- Twice daily yoga and wellness sessions
- All meals (except for a couple of outings)
- Curated excursions
A Day in Paradise
Mornings began with sunrise vinyasa yoga and guided meditation—open to all levels— followed by breakfast featuring superfood bowls, fresh-baked breads, and delicious vegan and vegetarian dishes.
When excursions weren’t planned, we lounged by the pool, read, or connected with new friends. Highlights of our excursions included:
• Luxury Yacht Day Trip: We sailed through Zakynthos’ crystal-clear waters, stopping at iconic beaches (including Shipwreck Beach), snorkeling spots, and the famous Blue Caves
- Natural Sulfur Spa: At Xigia Beach, we experienced the therapeutic benefits of sulfur-rich water in a natural thermal spa setting.
- Horseback Riding to the Sea: We rode along a scenic trail that led straight into the turquoise waters, staying mounted while the horses cooled off—an unforgettable experience.
- Lunch and Seaside lounging at Nobelos Seaside Lodge: Built from traditional Zakynthian stone, this charming seaside spot served organic Mediterranean dishes right to our sun chairs, toes in the sand.
Evenings of Connection
Evenings closed with yin yoga and meditation, grounding us after each day’s adventures. Dinners were nourishing, vibrant, and deeply satisfying—highlighting local flavors and healthy ingredients.
These dinners were also where the best conversations happened. I laughed harder than I had in ages and felt truly present in the moment.
A Memorable Farewell
On our final evening, we dressed in white (for a group drone shot) and headed to a clifftop viewpoint overlooking Shipwreck Beach. The sunset light was dreamy, the mood peaceful. Champagne flowed as we toasted to a magical week and the very first Nomadikas retreat officially “in the books.”
Back at the villa, we were treated to an epic Greek feast prepared by a local chef around the outdoor wood-fired kitchen. With glasses of local wine and shared stories, we relived our favorite moments from the week.
Final Reflections
This retreat was everything I needed and more. Slowing down and prioritizing well-being can feel nearly impossible in the pace of everyday life—but it’s exactly what my soul craved. I left with new friendships I still treasure today.
Nomadikas, now featured twice by Condé Nast Traveler, has since expanded to offer several other luxury escapes and property rentals across the globe. While this Zakynthos retreat ran for a couple years, the brand now rotates destinations, introducing new experiences while retiring others—always keeping their adventurous, luxury-wellness ethos at heart.
